Chapters 8-16
Spring comes around and things seem to be " pleasant". Jane is spending time with her friends. However, Helen is too sick to come out. It breaks my heart when we find out that Helen is dying from the typhus fever. Helen was Jane's only real friend. For once, Jane felt as if she belonged. Helen taught Jane about self-respect and fairness. In chapters 11-16, a new chapter starts in Jane's life. She becomes a governess and travels to Thornfeild. One question that popped to into my mind when reading these chapters is why didn't Rochester say anything to Jane in their first accounterance? My feelings toward Rochester is he lives up to his wealth. His attitude reminds me of Mr.Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. Both characters live up to their status and think nothing of people below them. However, in both books when they meet the main character their minds are changed forever. During the last chapters, the mysterious account that takes place in the house, made me think, that Rochester was hiding something. ( Foreshadowing ?).
